Fibber’s / St. Germain Lodge Fall Muskie Fishing School
Muskie Anglers Fish, Learn, and Eat in style.Be a part of a fun and educational experience with Fibber’s Restaurant and St. Germain Lodge as the Manthei’s host the 2009 St. Germain Muskie Fishing School.
Students will arrive on the afternoon of Friday, October 30th at Fibber’s on the north shore of historic Big St. Germain lake. You’ll be greeted by your instructors Rob Manthei, Russ Warye, and Ken Jackson. They’ll take the time to introduce you to fishing success, St. Germain style. You’ll learn cutting edge techniques, experience special waters that are among the best in northern Wisconsin, enjoy excellent accommodations, and eat like a king.
Saturday is a muskie angler’s dream. A hearty breakfast, some quick instruction, and then a fishing adventure with your fellow students. Your instructors will supervise the student’s boats to ensure their best possible chances for success. After a full day of fishing, a fine meal will be served back at Fibber’s and the students can swap tales of their day on the water.
Sunday will start with a short teaching session followed by breakfast. Afterwards, the students and instructors will hit the water one last time together to top off the weekend. By this time, patterns will be well established and the students should have a firm grasp of the two main pillars of success, where to catch them, and how to catch them. We’ll be back for lunch and have a short meeting with awards for the students. We’ll be wrapped up by 2:30 pm and the participants will be on their way home.
All students will be given many resources to help them become a more accomplished, confident angler. Each participant will be given a packet upon arrival that details the area, and the style of fishing that we’ll be doing. Each seminar will include a question and answer session, giving the anglers in the school a chance to inquire about the challenges and the mysteries of our lakes. Those involved will get an intimate look at many of the St. Germain area lakes that will help them catch fish long after their time at the 2009 school is complete.
You’ll have the opportunity to hire one of the instructors to guide you for the school to get special instruction on the water that will steepen your learning curve and help you put more fish in your boat. While this fee is in addition to the school, the on the water lessons are a great opportunity to learn and enjoy the school even more. Or, you can choose to fish on your own, armed with the knowledge and guidance of the information that you get from the seminars and dockside instruction.
The St. Germain Lodge Late Fall Muskie School is limited to 20 students.

Your Instructors:
Rob Manthei is the owner of Fibbers and the operator of St. Germain Lodge and Resort. He guides and instructs anglers both here in Wisconsin and in Northwest Ontario at the world renown Andy Meyer's Lodge. He is an accomplished tournament angler in both the walleye and muskie world. Rob is a field writer for Esox Angler Magazine and is a regular contributor to John Gillespie’s Waters and Woods and The Next Bite television programs. Rob will be involved in both seminar instruction and guiding students. He’ll concentrate on muskie movements and teach students proper techniques in live bait rigging.
Russ Warye is the founder of Fishing the North Country Publications, a company dedicated to creating researched fishing books on where-to and how-to fish the lakes of Wisconsin, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Minnesota and Ontario. He is the former Senior Research Editor for Fishing Hot Spots, Inc. (FHS) Rhinelander, WI and was responsible for the primary research for many maps as well as a traveling fishing program that taught on-the-water fishing to FHS clients from Kentucky and Laurel River lakes in Kentucky to a Little Bay de Noc in Michigan or Ontario’s Lake of the Woods. He is a licensed guide (including Coast Guard) concentrating on smallmouth bass and muskie. During the summer months he spends up to eight weeks teaching fishing at Witch Bay Camp, a famous fishing camp on Lake of the Woods, located south of Kenora, Ontario.
Ken Jackson has been fishing the St. Germain area his whole life and understands the nuances of the many lakes that the students will be fishing. He has logged tens of thousands of hours on the water and has conducted exhaustive research on lakes within the fishing school boundaries as a research writer for Fishing the North Country Publications. His family has run a resort and hosted fishing vacations in St. Germain since 1905. Ken chases muskies and both species of bass. No lake is off limits and there’s no telling where he’ll take you to learn how to catch fish. |
